Andromeda Foxwood, "Romy" to her friends, is a friendly, outspoken young woman from Virgon. Always ready with a quick smile, she can be quite gregarious and loves socializing and meeting new people. She's confident and knows how to take care of herself and isn't above letting people know what she thinks. Perhaps her most distinctive feature is her husky, almost raspy voice, not one you'd expect coming from a younger woman like Romy.

Romy was born and raised on Virgon, the only child of Chip and Lausanne Foxwood. While her mother died when she was very young, her father owned and maintained a well-frequented bar in the capital city, so Romy grew up around this environment, learning to mix her first cocktail at age 12. She inevitably started working there, and became popular with the patrons for her warmhearted personality. Her father liked to collect his own spirits from around the colony and sometimes off-world, giving his establishment a wide and varied selection, but a chronic back injury often hindered him from his task. When Romy came of age, she obtained a pilot's license and continued her father's supply runs for him.

On one fateful run, her father comes with her to help with the acquisition of a particularly difficult-to-obtain spirit. On their return trip, some unusual turbulence in the atmosphere causes their craft to crash in the middle of a desert. Romy is knocked unconscious for a time, and when she comes to, she finds that her father has been killed by the impact, his body slumped over hers in an apparent attempt to save her life. Devastated, she returns to her home and is unsure of what to do with herself.

She decides to spend time away from Virgon, to think about her future. Closing her bar down, she finds passage off her homeworld and travels to many different places, working a number of jobs, most of them piloting positions. Eventually she ends up on the Seventh Heaven as a bartender.
