Ambitions
He always wanted to be an entomologist as his hobby is collecting bugs. (Dead ones, of course.) But entomologist don't get paid well and certainly don't live as an exciting life as a pilot. Although much of his insect collection was left a his grandmother's house and is now destroyed, he does have a few specimens with him in his locker. This is where he gets his callsign of 'Critter'.

Jake's parents died in a traffic accident when he was six and from then on he was raised by his grandmother. He wasn't the best student in school, but he was active in sports and his marks were good enough to get him into the Fleet Academy where he trained to be a pilot. He's had a few girlfriends during his time in the service, but none of them have ever lived up to his expectations. Like most Gemanese, he's religious, and although not fanatically so, his faith has deepened since the Holocaust.
