Lieutenant JG Oliver Grayson
[ Non-Playing Character ]
After a year of school, Ollie began to break out of his shell, timidly at first, but enough to make a handful of friends who could relate to his calm demeanor during cram sessions for big tests, and his surprisingly “rural” sensibilities of work smarter not harder.
Ollie enlisted in the Colonial Fleet after college. When his parents asked why? He said because he had to pay back school, when they reminded him they were flipping the bill. He said he couldn’t accept it, he went to school for himself, he was gonna take care of it himself, just as they had taught him. Which was a lie, because he was just looking for an excuse to get on another ship and see what a Battlestar could show him that his family freighter couldn’t.
Basic wasn’t rough for Ollie physically, but he found the strict concepts of what Fleet Command considered “Discipline” a bit off putting. Ollie found himself clashing with superiors, by often assuming he knew how to do it better, or leaping into action before thinking. More than not, Ollie was correct or in the right, discipline was often overlooked of overwhelmed by his success ranking, and what would have been a court martial for most nuggets ended up potato peeling in the mess. Ollie never assumed he was better than anyone else, he often thinks of his mother before going into action. “Live to Serve, Serve to Live” she always told him, and Ollie thinks of others before himself, orders be damned. It’s not that Ollie isn’t a patriot, he believes in the articles of colonization and that its citizens and government should too.
Ollie also discovered a new side of himself, while taking basic self defense, and the adrenaline high of taking down an armed man with your bare-hands. This lead to short lived dare devil stage in his life, until the tragic death of a fellow officer after a rock climbing accident while on leave. If not for his reprimands in basic, Ollie might’ve been top of his class. But he never let it dismay him from continuing his military career. As a pilot, Ollie’s homegrown talents manifest naturally in the cockpit, able to swing moves most wouldn’t think to, serve his survival in the battlefield and his loyalty to protecting others make him a viable and alert wingman, which earned him the Callsign: Atlas, as Ollie often attempts to take on more than he may be able to do, by “Carrying the Colonies on his shoulders”. Ollie isn’t perfect. He takes his blows and balances them against his successes and continues to try and figure out who he is, and what he’s meant for. All he does know is the joy of the possibilities that exist for him.
Ollie calls authority into question when in deserves to be, not out of a need to be superior, but in service of what is just. After graduating from basic, he found his first assignment on the Battlestar Columbia to be very confrontational, the crew a bit amoral for his taste and the CAG to be a bit more talk than walk, he was shortly reassigned after a few stern words from Captain Willets, lead to Lt. Grayson dealing his superior a black eye, charges were under cut after an investigation into Willet’s stem abuse lead to his being dishonorably discharged and Ollie put in for reassignment after the crew made it clear he wasn’t welcomed on the Columbia.
Atlas became part of the Battlestar Valkyrie Air Wing under Commander Adama, “A firm, strict often harsh but ultimately fair and honest man, sometimes painfully so” by Ollie’s own words “If only the same could be said for his XO”. Ollie’s tour with Adama was short lived after circumstances during a classified mission lead to Adama’s reassignment to the derelict Galactica. After Adama, Ollie had a hard time taking the following CO seriously, and filed once more for reassignment for another ship.

Notes from C.O.s
Major Vidar: Requires guidance to chain of command in regard to how to speak to an officer, but ultimately a serviceable pilot with skills and foresight that is bit beyond his eyes, unfortunately at times that can be a down fall.
Adm. Nagala: Too few pilots have his natural charisma with a gamble and his stubbornness is guided and tempered, not egotistical. If he could find a crew who accepts him, he’ll be a vital addition to any squadron.
Cmdr. Adama: Atlas has serves his uniform with honor on his shoulder. His willingness to serve is only outweighed by his skills in a cockpit and in the field.

| General Overview | ||
| Born of father from Aerilon and a mother from Caprica, Ollie was raised to value science and the arts as well as hard work and the accomplishment of doing it yourself. A painter and mechanic by hobby, Ollie enjoys the simple and often slower paces of life to pass his time, alla puzzles and a chess game, even an old novel to escape the confined walls of a battlestar’s barracks. But he can’t help but scratch the itch of adrenaline when it calls, a spar in the ring, the speed of a viper and the rush of firing a side arm are as comfortable to him as an old book. While Ollie comes from a diverse background, his views can sometimes be one sided. From the heart, and honest, but single minded. He often leaps before he thinks, hears what he wants before it’s said and at times can jump to assumptions, but never without the best of intentions. Ollie’s lack of charm and grace is made up by his aurora of luck and his earnest good intentions often pay off, even when others see his eagerness as off putting. He just wants to help, and hopefully find his place in the progress. |

| Since the Holocaust, and the assumed death of his parents since he lost contract with their Friehgter: Bugle's Creed, Ollie isn't sure what future is ahead of him beyond being a viper pilot and a soldier. Now he has no family, only his fellow crewmen, he just doesn't know how to connect with them. Ultimately Ollie would like to find love in a common soul, with a woman who’s seeking her place as much as he is, like his parents did with each other, but since the holocaust he isn’t sure what he should put first, his duty or his heart, and while the ladder has kept him alive, ultimately he knows that the Gods have lead him into the service to place his part in the puzzle of humanity’s survival. |

History
Born Oliver Orin Grayson, aboard the “Bugle’s Creed” a utilities and supplies freighter, owned and operated by his parents after their eloping due to their family rivalry. Birthed in open space with every planet in the colony to pick as a home, Ollie never settled to terrestrial life, raised as a crewman and pilot for the family company at the age of 12. His entire childhood spent aboard a ship, with a crew of 87 to call family, Ollie rarely learned to social graces and intricacies of colonial life. This made him a bit of a recluse in college, often more invested in his books than in parties, though not without effort on his part. After a year of school, Ollie began to break out of his shell, timidly at first, but enough to make a handful of friends who could relate to his calm demeanor during cram sessions for big tests, and his surprisingly “rural” sensibilities of work smarter not harder.
