Captain Iris Cheyn
Iris was able to gain sponsorship to the school from her father, by that time a Strategic Operations Officer aboard the Valkyrie. During her first two years, she interned on the Battlestar Valkyrie as a medic and found herself wanting to be more in the main CIC room rather than serving as a medical observer on the outside. She returned back to the Academy and changed her major and, after another two years, was able to graduate with degrees in Strategic Operations and Communications.
Her first berth, post-Academy, was on the Battlestar Olympia, where she served as a communications officer under the Strategic Operations department. She left the ship after disagreements with fellow officers of higher ranks. She elected to pursue other interests in the fleet and wanted to choose a smaller vessel, but was accepted a position on her father's ship, the Battlestar Valkyrie. She remained on the ship for two years, achieving the rank of Lieutenant, before her request went through Fleet Command and she was transferred to her next position on the Battlestar Triton. She was shifted linearally from communications to helm and found the position as challenging for someone with differing interests. She left the Triton in 2007 for her final position as a flight officer on the Gunstar Temperance, becoming her Flight Control Officer.
After the attack on the colonies, Iris received word that her father's ship, the Battlestar Valkyrie, had been destroyed, as well as Picon Fleet Headquarters, where her mother was the staff surgeon. She can only assume that her five siblings were deceased as well. Her brother, Aaron Cheyn, served aboard the Battlestar Solaria as a viper pilot, having realized their parents' dream for having a pilot in Colonial Fleet. What they didn't realize was that their daughter had also found a way to pilot a large aircraft, but had significant other means of reaching that goal.

| Personality & Traits | ||
| General Overview | ||
| Iris has been molded into a perfect Colonial officer since she was a child. She was raised to be stoic, strong-willed and the silent type, one to take orders and follow them to the greatest ability. Her only downside was the fact that she had a rebellious streak, enough to break the chains of the path set before her. She has ambitions in her own right | ||
| Strengths & Weaknesses | ||
| (+) She was raised in a military family and knows protocols backwards and forwards. She is able to follow orders with a single command. (+) Very strong loyalty to her current ship, the Temperance. She will risk her life for her ship. (-) Though she is the 'silent' type to follow commands, she is also the first person to question an order if she believes it to be the wrong one. (-) She can be the 'silent' type and has owned up to lack of communication in the past. |
||
| Ambitions | ||
| Since becoming a command-level officer, she has always wanted to return to Fleet Command. On top of it all, she wants to settle down and retire from fleet service knowing that she has done some good. | ||
| Hobbies & Interests | ||
| Iris was known as a thrill seeker and daredevil in her earlier years, including motorcycles, base jumping, race derbies and weapons. Her tastes have refined some; she enjoys an occasional run to get rid of excess energy, still thrives on speed and has a modest collection of adventure novels to help seal in her daredevil image. | ||

History
Iris, and her twin brother Aaron, were born to their parents, Avaris and Layla Cheyn, on Picon. Her father was an Aquarian-born man from a sea-faring family who sought to turn his fortunes into Fleet Command. He was the XO of the Battlestar Valkyrie. Her mother, Picon-born Layla, was also in Colonial Fleet, a medical officer at Picon Fleet Headquarters. Despite her parents' best efforts to convert her and her brother into perfect Colonial Officers, Iris had a rebellious streak and kept toeing the line. She was accepted at a private girl's school and was later expelled for what the school deemed "lewd acts" but what Iris would call "harmless fun." While her brother went on to excel where she did not, Iris chose a different path. She became a medical assistant fresh out of high school and attended a private college to get a medical degree. She finished with basic credentials and hopped back into Colonial Fleet, serving at one of their sanctioned hospitals on Caprica. She worked for two years before boredom settled in. She wanted more, but she didn't know if she could handle the workload of a full physician and found herself attending a seminar for Colonial Fleet Academy.Iris was able to gain sponsorship to the school from her father, by that time a Strategic Operations Officer aboard the Valkyrie.
